The new Scirocco R is scheduled to arrive in European showrooms in the beginning of fall 2009. Sadly for U.S consumers, Volkswagen has no plans at the moment to import the sports coupe in the country.

The new Scirocco R is powered by 2.0-liter engine boasting a higher pressure turbocharger as well as other modifications such as new intercooler that help boost output to 265HP and 350Nm or 258.2-lbs/ft of torque. Bodykit consists of a chunkier front bumper that houses larger air vents as well as LED daytime running lights, side skirts, new grille, roof spoiler, restyled rear bumper and smoked tail lights. Subtle Aero Kit for Eos Coupe-Convertible

The only ones releasing sporty accessories these days; many automakers like Volkswagen have also jumped in the tuning bandwagon. The German firm has just revealed a new aero kit for its Golf-based hardtop-convertible, the Eos. The package consists of a front apron, side skirts and a rather subtle boot lid spoiler. Certainly not as a aggressively styled as other bodykit proposals, but not everyone wants their car to look like it’s about to compete in a ‘Fast and Furious’ competition.

Just like the Golf GTI Edition, this Volkswagen Polo Worthersee 09 concept car comes out with its extroverted “Flash Red” body color. In addition, two black rally stripes command attention; they extend over the front end, the roof and back to the rear. The sporty, generously sized alloy wheels are the last detail. The black 18-inchers in “Budapest” styling are making their appearance with polished spokes. Volkswagen said more than 13,000 orders have been received, even before its market launch. The black versus red contrast can be seen as a defining, excitement generating theme. The radiator grille screen, mirror caps, backdrop of the headlights and insert in the lower bumper known as the “buckle” all offer a dark contrast. And the sport exhaust system pleases with its optimized sound.

Premium black also characterizes the interior. It takes a path from the roofliner over the air vents – each with a high-gloss finish – the steering wheel accents and radio panel down to the very distinctive front seats. They are made of very high-end materials. Black nappa leather trims the outer surfaces and the center seat panels where they are offset by horizontal black stripes in the microfiber “San Remo”. The seat’s lateral supports have an arc-shaped striped design which – viewed from outside to inside – is composed of nappa leather, flash-red nappa leather piping, the white leather “Berry White” and black leather. The aluminum tread plates are also a custom feature. Similar to the Golf GTI concept car, they bear the signature Volkswagen Polo Worthersee 09. Red seams also enhance the leatherwork on the parking brake handle, gearshift grip, steering wheel and door trim.

2009 Volkswagen Scirocco R

Approximately one year after the market launch of the third Scirocco generation, Volkswagen is presenting the most powerful series built Scirocco ever made at the Nürburgring. The Volkswagen Scirocco R is powered by the 2.0 liter TSI engine that has been tuned to output 265 PS at 6,000 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 2,500 to 5,000 rpm. This is 15 hp and 30 Nm more than the Golf R32. The Volkswagen Scirocco R will offer the choice between a 6-speed manual transmission and the DSG gearbox. The top speed of the Volkswagen Scirocco R is limited to 250 km/h and the car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds (6.4 s DSG version).

The design of the Volkswagen Scirocco R is largely based on the Scirocco GT24, which was designed for motor sports: there are large air intake openings in the front bumper which the engineers used to achieve optimal cooling for the engine and the brakes, and an integrated front spoiler as well as the bi-xenon headlights. At the rear end, the roof edge spoiler, which is much larger than on the standard model, a striking shining black diffuser and the chrome tailpipes of the dual exhaust system dominate the design. The side view of the vehicle is characterized by the powerful sill panels as well as the specially-designed 18? alloy wheels “Talladega”.

Volkswagen will demonstrate the potential of the new Volkswagen Scirocco R during the 24- hour race with this racing version. With a total of five Sciroccos, driver teams including Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, member of the Volkswagen board of management for technical development, the rally world champion Carlos Sainz as well as this year’s Dakar winner Giniel de Villiers, will be at the start line.
